The Swedish mark which emblem is the symbol of the steel of the ancient alchemists and whose name means “I roll”, it comes to our blog of the engine like one of the companies most worried by the safety of the motorcar. Volvo was born of the union of the engineer Gustaf Larson and of the financier Assar Gabrielsson. Both decided to mount a business of manufacture of motorcars in Goteborg. His first model, the OV4, was known in Sweden like Jakob. In his beginnings, Volvo, he was devoting himself to assemble simply pieces of other manufacturers and mount the motorcar. Volvo decides to quote in bag and the good march of his actions allowed him to absorb immense most of his providers and to turn this way into a real manufacturer. Most of his production in those years was consisting of light industrial vehicles. Before the big World war his production reached 40.000 units. During the conflict it suspended the motorcars manufacture and devoted itself completely to the armoured vehicles assembly for the army.
Concluded the war, his model PV threw the signature 444, the first one in arranging of bodywork autoamble, to this one, the Amazon followed him, in the 50s. With both models there grew the reputation of Volvo and his interest in the safety of the vehicles. Reputation that consolidated with the arrival of the series 140, 240 and 260. With the safety like motto, it was not strange in the 70s to see the Volvo announced with photos, of the test realized to verify his safety, hitting concrete walls.
In 1972, Volvo bought Daf and extended his scale of models. In 1974, the most sold model of his history appeared with three million units, 240, more than half of who had the bodywork Station Wagon (relative), of which Volvo was a precursor in Europe.
Volvo eliminated Daf and supported conversations with Renault to collaborate in the construction of different models, the agreement did not go so far as to take shape for a few inopportune declarations of a member of the French Government. After breaking the agreement with Renault, he signed one of collaboration with Mitsubishi, with which it has created the company Nedcar, which makes products for both signatures. In 1998, Volvo happens to be part of the Group Ford.
