Jaguar was founded in 1922 by William Lyons, although this name took it after the 2nd World war, considering the unfortunate connotations that there had the original name “Swallow Sidecar Company”, since the models thrown by this signature began his denomination with the initials CENTURIES. At first, Swallow Sidecar, was making sidecares for motorbikes and bodyworks for cars, until in 1931 the sports beautiful SS100, one appeared with a few services similar to a Rolls Royce but for less than one third of what was costing the Rolls. The SS100 was a success of sales.

During the warlike conflict, Jaguar made ammunition, but his owner was already developing the strategic plan to apply after the War. It set his engineers to be employed at his new proposals, like an engine of six cylinders with double camshaft and an independent suspension. As soon as these two innovations were developed it included them successfully in the XK 120, the first Jaguar that was going out as such of his factory in 1948.

The British mark began differentiating his scale between the luxurious berlins and the sports ones, in the first one there would appear models as incredible as the MKII and as for the sports ones in 1961 there appeared the E-Type, other one of the masterpieces of Lyons. The E-Type achieved five victories in Him Mans, this, together with the union there were to Daimler the best moments of Jaguar and of Lyons. Soon the tragedy came for the Jaguar founder, his only son and heir died and a pompous fire destroyed his factory.

Once retired Lyons, Jaguar was sold to British Leyland in 1972 and this brought with it the fall in stung from the prestige of the mark. The motorcars made by Leyland were not reaching not of far the habitual Jaguar quality and the signature was on the point of disappearing. In 1990 the American giant Ford decided to buy it and to give a new life, the quality standard of the cars rose and Jaguar recovered part of his prestige, in these moments the British manufacturer is included in the Group Tata.
