History of Maserati

The Maserati history is written by the men who directed it, the brothers Maserati, Omer Orsi and of Tomaso, men whose only passion was to make cars: exclusive, powerful and very sports, without importing either the costs or the benefits for them. There comes to our blog of the engine the history of the signature which emblem, a trident, is inspired in the statue of Neptune that rises in the Biggest Square of Bologna.

Founded in Bologna for Alfieri Maserati which soon there would join his brothers Bindo, Ernesto and Ettore, his beginnings are located in a small workshop of candlesticks, where the brothers began to construct their own cars to take part in different competitions of the epoch, then the same retouched vehicles, they were sold as sports of street in small series. Already in those times the Maserati were giving samples of where his intentions were going to constructing a car with two engines of eight cylinders in line, mounted in parallel and with his crankshafts joined by means of cogwheels.

To the Alfieri death in 1932, it joined the rest of brothers, Omer Orsi and together they moved the head office of the signature to Módena. In 1958 they decided to center his efforts on constructing sports of street and relegating those of competition to a background. It was from here on, when the mark was changing hands without a clear course. Thanks to a help of the government he avoided the failure and in this moment it was acquired by Citroen. In hands of the French mark, Maserati, designed the spectacular SM.

Alessandro de Tomaso, an Argentinian settled down in Italy, saved again to the mark of his disappearance. He had its own cars mark and it tried to fuse with Chrysler but the agreement did not come to good port. Down his order there appeared the model Biturbo who was a disaster again as for sales and placed Maserati again at the edge of the disappearance. In 1990, Fiat, he acquired the signature and saneó his accounts, now Maserati joins his future to Ferrari inside the Group Fiat and the future seems promising.

Where if they emphasized the cars made by the brothers Maserati it was in the world of the competition. Juan Manuel Fangio to the frill of a Maserati 250 F, like that of the photo, obtained the world qualifications of Formula 1 of the year 1954 and 1957. The classic Europeans were not resisting them either, only in 24 Hours of Him Mans is where there has not been possible the victory of the mark of the trident.
