The beginnings of Volkswagen were marked by the second big armed conflict. To. Hitler, showed interest to motorize his people and there entrusted to l German builder, the manufacture of a vehicle that should fulfill a series of conditions marked by him and that was based on an ancient design of Ferdinand Porsche. In spite of never counting with an initial order of 200.000 units this vehicle it gone so far as to be made.
After supporting numerous bombings during the war, the factory located in KDF-Stadt, it stayed in British hands. The city was re-baptized by the name of Wolfsburg and the activity began again in the Volkswagen factory. The model made in those times was the "Beetle" and all his units were directed to the British army. When it was returned to German hands, Volkswagen was completely operative and making more and more cars. The success of the Beetle led to initiating his exportation, first to the rest of Europe and later to the United States.
With only two models in the assembly line, the Beetle and his derivative the Transporter, Volkswagen had turned into one more than profitable company and his model reached the honor of turning into the most made car of all the times. That small small car with rear engine refreshed by air, rear haulage and a beyond the common resistance, still keeps on circulating along our highways and on him multitude of variants has been made.
The later models, 1.500 and 411, did not enjoy a lot of success. In 1965 Volkswagen bought Edict Union to Mercedes and this allowed him to gain access to new technologies. Thanks to this new knowledge, Volkswagen began to incorporate the chassis autoamble and the engine and the haulage forwards into his new models.
In the middle of the 70 the models Passat, Scirocco and especially the Golf, allowed the definitive Volkswagen blast-off, it sold Edict Union, remained with Audi, bought SEAT and later after the fall of the wall of Berlin the Czech manufacturer Skoda. The number of his plants grew spectacularly and his presence expanded all over the world.
At present it is the most powerful Car Group of Europe and it has incorporated marks of the prestige of Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley and Porsche.
