The Japanese manufacturer who today visits our blog dedicated to the engine adopted his official name, Mazda, in 1984, although his origins go back 1920. Nowadays it makes cars and Japan sells them in addition to in his fatherland, in North America, South America and Europe.

His beginnings go back 1920 under the name of Toyo Kogyo, the principal activity in the beginning was the cork, later it began to make motorcycles and small tricycles dedicated to the transport of goods by the cities. In the year 1934 one of his shareholders, J. Matsuda, decided to begin the motorcars manufacture. Some prototypes were designed, but the World war ruined Matsuda's pretensions.
It was not up the year 1960 that Mazda reappeared and did it with a child coupé promoted by the engine of a motorcycle of 360 cc. This small rafter of two squares and four speeds was the starting point so that the company will throw a finished scale of models and to come to the unit million only three years after initiating his production.
At the end of the 60s there came the international expansion of the Japanese manufacturer. The models Carol and Family they were registering a good sales level in his fatherland and in 1967 the first units were exported to Europe, three years later would come to the United States. The first Mazda were simple, strong vehicles and of simple maintenance, all this joined at a very competitive price they woke up the interest of the countries of the north of Europe.
At the same time that he was constructing this type of cars, Mazda, it was investigating and developing a rotary engine. Invented by the engineer Félix Wankel, this type of engine was mounted in models as R-100, in the family Cosmo and in the sports ones of the famila RX, being the RX-7 most known out of Japan.
In 1980, Mazda included the front haulage in one of his most successful models 323, thanks to which his relation began with the American giant Ford, so that this one was making 323 in Australia. From here on the bonds between two companies joined and identical models made on the part of both like the Mazda 121/Ford Holiday and the Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape.
Mazda has kept on investigating, developing and applying interesting technological innovations to his cars like; the engine of cycle Miller or four motive wheels and guidelines. The motive newspaper Wankel went so far as to gain 24 Hours of Him Mans in 1991.
At present, Mazda has separated of Ford and keeps on investigating new propulsion skills for his cars like the hydrogen or the electricity.
