History of Lancia

Vincenzo Lancia, pilot of careers, founded the company that today visits our blog dedicated to the engine, at the beginning of the XXth century. His passion for four wheels was such, that simultaneously who was competing, designing his own vehicles to which it was baptizing with the letters of the Greek alphabet. Nowadays the Lancia are vehicles loaded with personality and different from anyone of those who compose the car market.

When in 1906, Vincenzo Lancia, founded his company, he was a careers pilot for Fiat. Although he kept on competing, he began to construct small throws of motorcars baptized with the letters of Greek alphabet. In 1907 a frightening fire destroyed the Lancia factory. Vicenzo recovered to this hard blow and some time after his model Alpha threw with an engine of 2.500 cc.

Always worried for introducing in his cars the last technological advances, one of his models, the Theta, it was the first European car with electrical series starter. In the year 1919 he designed a prototype with an engine of 12 cylinders placed in V that was provided with a sophisticated system of rear suspension.

The prototype does not go so far as to be made but of this idea the family Kappa was born, a few vehicles with an excellent stability and a very sports spirit. Soon there appeared the model Lambda, the first motorcar that was arranging of a chassis monohull autoamble and an independent front suspension. Of him 13.000 units sold in 10 years. Vincenzo's death took place shortly before in 1937 there was appearing his last and brilliant creation, the Aprilia, a car that was lacking central amount, he had an engine of light alloy and that marked an epoch inside the sports ones of that epoch.

As soon as the 2nd World war was concluded, Lancia increased the production and the number of models. They appeared: Aurelia, Flaminia and the medium ones of front haulage Fulvia and Flavia. To half of the 50s, Lancia was sold to an industrialist dedicated to the cement, Carlo Pesenti. This sale coincided with the best sports results of the mark; the D50 was triumphing in the Formula 1, in the rallies models as Fulvia Coupé HF and later mythical Lancia Stratoss they were obtaining numerous victories and championships of the world. The following model in achieving big results was the Delta, with his versions Integrate him, 16v and HF.

In 1969, and after the Pesenti failure, Lancia came across of Fiat. The following models as the Beta and the Gamma were excellent cars. Lancia was expiring to the perfection with the role that was granting him Fiat, which was not different that to be the most sports image of the group. Everything Romeo changed with the arrival to the Group Fiat of Alpha, this one remained with the sports image and Lancia was reinvented to satisfy a more select public, making vehicle elegant, loaded of personality and of an undoubted quality.
