The company was founded in 1912 by André Citroen, although, it did not begin to make motorcars until it did not finish the 1st World war. His first models, 10HP, 5HP and Rosalie, were cars with bodywork of steel and a floating engine on gum support. The acceptance on the part of the consumers was good and Citroen wanted to go further away. The French signature tackled the ambitious project named 7 CV Traction, a completely different car, with bodywork monohull and front haulage. The costly development of 7 CV took Citroen at the edge of the ruin.

Completely minimalista, 2CV, it was four squares with a front engine refreshed by air and suspensions bamboleantes that turned into the whole symbol for the country.

Another important date in the Citroen history is a 1955, year in which there appeared the DS, berlin of lines much advanced for his time, it was including the suspension hidroneumática, an authentic technological progress. With the DS, the French signature obtained a big advantage on his rivals. Nevertheless, he could not cover the existing hollow between 2Cv (low segment) and the DS (high segment) while Renault and Peugeot if they did it, the cake of the sales being distributed.

Citroen covered the average segment with the model GS in 1970, for that one then others two French signatures were taking him a valuable advantage in the development of his models. Citroen then, he looked for alliances with other marks to try to plant face, but none worked. In the year 1974 Michelin decided that the best thing was to join Peugeot and to form a more powerful group. After this agreement they arose models as the XM or the BX and now the Citroen cars share components with the Peugeot. It seems that the future appears cleared for Citroen that keeps on innovating and presenting models as spectacular as the Hypnos.
