The first business of the family Peugeot was a hardware store, they devoted themselves also to the world of the bicycles and finally they demonstrated interest in that of the motorcars. In the year 1891 they constructed his first car with engine moved by gasoline, six years later they create the company “Brothers' Children Peugeot”. At the beginning of century there proliferate the engines of electrical ignition and Peugeot will be a new factory in Lille, also in the United Kingdom, in Siddeley, they begin making the first motorcars of the French mark under license.
In the year 1903, Robert Peugeot began the motorcycles manufacture in the factory of Beaulieu-Valentigney, in which after a little time one would alternate with the motorcars manufacture, under the name of Lion-Peugeot. Ettore Bugatti, designed a new motorcar for Peugeot in those first years of the XXth century.
As soon as the 1st World war was concluded, Peugeot develops a series of engines of 3 cylinders to which he would accompany in 1922 other of six cylinders. The expansion of the mark was taking place quickly and in 1927 he acquired two new factories; that of Dion Bouton and that of Bellanger FrËres. In the year 35 the last engine of six cylinders develops. In the course of the 2nd big war, Peugeot made electrical cars as the VLV capable of reaching 50 km / h.
As soon as the 2nd World war was finished, Peugeot was one of the first ones in restoring his production and on the following year there was already selling more than 14.000 units of his model 202, whom the model would follow soon 203.
At the beginning of the 60, the French mark, 403 had constructed more than 1 million units of his model. Other of his successes of sales, 404, it was designed by Pininfarina in the year 1960. The mythical one 504 would appear in the year 1969.
It was running the year 1974 when Peugeot buys Citroen to Michelín, three years later it is done by the Chrysler branch in Europe and this way there is born the group PSA Peugeot-Citroen. At present he is the second biggest European cars builder behind the group Volkswagen.
