Created in full recovery of the country after the warlike conflict, Hyundai put himself in Ford's hands, which by means of one of his branches in the United Kingdom, his production plant helped him to start. Thanks to the mechanical components of Ford and the design of ItalDesing, Hyundai threw his first own model, the Pony.
Presented in Turin, in 1974, the Pony initiated his exportation only two years later. The Pony settled on the national market, while Hyundai was making under license Ford Taunus and the Granada. With the intention of evolving and of gaining access to the last technologies, Hyundai signed an agreement with the Japanese builder Mitsubishi and from this moment his growth was spectacular. Already in the year 1984 the amount of the exports reached astronomical quantities and kept on increasing in the later years; thanks to the strong entry in the North American market of the second generation of the Pony and of the new berlin Steller. The conquest of the European market was slower, but in the end it took place, thank you especially at the competitive price of the models of the Korean mark.
His principal factory placed in Ulsan reached the number of 1,3 million vehicles constructed a year, and at present she is one of the biggest of the world, with five modules of production and an infrastructure very similar to that of any city (fire station, shops, hospitals …). Of his fatherland, Hyundai, makes also vehicles of big size, which are not different that Mitsubishi made low licenses, what allows him to control the market without scarcely opposition including all the segments.
The good rhythm of the exports allowed to Hyundai to start the Asan plant, construct a modern research center in Namyang, a center of design in California and lines of assembly in Indonesia and Botswana. In the year 1991, Hyundai, developed his first engine of four cylinders without external help, every time it was less dependent on the Japanese giant.
At the end of the 90, the economy of Korea sank. Hyundai bore the bad moment since it was the least indebted and the one that less was depending on the national market. It made the most of the opportunity to be done by KIA, developed models for the new markets of todocaminos and monovolumes, adapted his models to the markets whom it was selling; diesel engines for Europe and models of major size for the United States. Now the signature is completely consolidated and his models win in quality, supporting a few very exact sale prices.
