The Spanish Society of Motorcars of Tourism, SEAT, is one of our principal manufacturers of motorcars from 1950, now it is part of the Group Volkswagen and from our blog dedicated to the engine we produce this small homage.

SEAT, FIAT was born across the National Institute of Industry and his agreement with the Italian signature to make under license his models in Spain. It was part of the impulse that the pro-Franco Government wanted to give to till then closed and slightly developed Spanish economy. The place chosen for his place was the Free zone of Barcelona, strategic point of the transit of goods.
The first models chosen to be reproduced in Spain were the Seat 1400, spacious berlin that Fiat was commercializing under the same name, and especially, 1500, berlin of high scale that motorized the most wealthy classes and 600, a small vehicle of engine and haulage bottoms that turned into a little time in a national icon. Of him 800.000 units sold in 13 years.
Later although the link with Fiat was supported, Seat began to make its own models, many, evolutions of those of the Italian signature, but they began to take his stamp. Between them 133 and the Sport we can stand out 1200. The models Fiat that Seat made in the 70s with big success there were 124, 127, 131, Rhythm and the Panda.
At the end of the 70 and already with the established democracy, the Spanish market was opened completely, and many marks chose to settle in our country (Ford, Peugeot, Opel, Suzuki and Nissan, in addition to Renault, Citroen, Austin and Simca). The competition grew and Seat lost leading role. The agreements with Fiat came to his end and the Spanish mark began to fly alone, now with two production plants since he acquired that of Austin in Pamplona.
The throwing of Seat Ronda, it cost him to the Spanish mark a judicial process for plagiarism interposed by his ancient associate Fiat, who nevertheless resolved himself in favor of Seat. Soon the Malaga and the Ibiza came, with engines developed by Porsche and although his construction rhythm was good and the exports they were growing, the mark that was still a property of the Spanish Government, it was sold to the German Group Volkswagen, to which it belongs nowadays.
Under the German control, Seat, inaugurated a new plant in Martorell and it faces the future based on models as renewed Ibiza, the new León or the elegant berlin Exeo.
